The 15th century was a period of crisis and contrasts in Europe. The crisis of feudalism and the beginning of the Renaissance, with the Crown of Aragon no stranger to these changes, marked a time when the hegemony that Catalonia had held until then passed to Valencia. The city became the political, social, economic, and cultural center of the Crown of Aragon and one of the most prosperous cities in the western Mediterranean.

Symbols of this splendor and power of the city of Valencia include the construction of great Gothic civil monuments such as the Silk Exchange (Lonja de la Seda), the Serrans Gate (Portal dels Serrans), the Quart Gate (Portal del Quart), and the Palau de la Generalitat (Palace of the Generalitat); and religious monuments such as the Micalet bell tower (Micalet bell tower), the Cathedral, etc., in addition to the construction of numerous Gothic palaces. The 15th century in Valencia is also known as the "Valencian Golden Age."

A cultural movement in which art and literature flourished. A period that saw the creation of some of the finest Valencian literary works written in the Kingdom of Valencia by authors such as Ausiàs March, Joanot Martorell, Jaume Roig, Joan Roís de Corrella, and Isabel de Villena, among others. This century also witnessed the advent of the printing press and the publication of the first songbook (a collection of poems) in the Iberian Peninsula, and how this influenced writers.

On the Literary Paths route, we will explore the sites in the historic center connected to the lives and works of the greatest Valencian poets and novelists of the 15th century. We will discover the market frequented by Jaume Roig, learn what poem the king's falconer wrote, what is considered the first modern European novel, which figure wore a habit and preached without having been ordained a priest, who resisted the fact that the chivalric ideal had come to an end, and how modern chess originated in Valencia.
